FAQ & Support

General Questions

What makes Fatbikes so great ?

Fatbikes are cool because they let you ride anywhere with comfort and zero stress.

Their extra-wide tires smooth out bumps and provide incredible grip on any terrain. Unlike a traditional e-bike, a fatbike is designed to handle daily commutes comfortably, carry your essentials, and still feel playful on weekend rides.

Paired with a powerful rear-hub motor, you get effortless, powerful acceleration and support — so you can cruise uphill, start fast at lights, and ride longer without tiring. Plus, the bold design makes every ride feel like an adventure and turns heads everywhere you go.

Is the size right for my height?

See our size chart here

Our fatbikes are built strong — they support up to 150 kg total rider & passenger weight.

In terms of height, riders from 160 cm to 190 cm feel right at home on our 20" tire Fatbikes, whereas riders from 140 cm to 170 cm may choose from one of our 16" tire models.

Short, tall, light, solid — as long as you’re within those ranges, you’re good to go. Fat fun for everyone!

Where can I buy your Fatbikes?

We sell our entire collection of Fatbikes online accross Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Fully mounted ready to ride and with free delivery!

You will also find some models of our Fatbikes at official Partner stores here. Check for the tag "Molenstraat Fatbike" or contact the store to ensure they have supply!

Are Fatbikes legal in Switzerland?

All Molenstraat Fatbikes are fully legal in Switzerland — they are classified as “Leicht-Motorfahrräder” under Art. 18 VTS (Verordnung über die technischen Anforderungen an Strassenfahrzeuge, SR 741.41), since their motor assistance is limited to 25 km/h and nominal power to 500 W. This means they are treated like regular bicycles: no registration, number plate, or license is required, and they can be used freely on public roads and cycle paths in Switzerland.

Can I do a test ride ?

Absolutely — and our partner stores are happy to provide free test rides for you! You will find a list of our Partner stores here.

Fatbikes aren’t just bikes… they’re a whole vibe. Come feel the grip, the comfort, and the big-smile-energy for yourself before deciding.

Book a test ride, hop on, and let's turn “maybe” into “wow, I need this.” 😎

Do I need to pedal to ride?

Our Fatbikes are equipped with a half twist throttle handle that will accelerate the bike up to 25 km/h, without the need to pedal. When using pedal assist mode, the pedal sensor will also trigger the rear hub motor. Fatbikes require only minimal efforts on the pedals. Pedaling will however save power and increase your range!

Setup & Maintenance

How often should I service my fatbike?

Every 6 months or ~600 km, whichever comes first. You can find a list of repair & service partners here.

Regularly inspect your fatbike at home and:

  • Clean & lubricate the chain
  • Check tire pressure
  • Check brake pads
  • Ensure axle nuts are properly tightened. Axle nuts should be given ca. 45Nm of wrench torque.
  • Inspect cables and connectors (water & dust can accumulate)
  • Tighten handlebar, stem & saddle bolts

What if I need spare parts?

Molenstraat endeavours to carry most common spare parts for all of our model in our stock, readily available for needed fixes. Many parts can be purchased directly from our webshop, or provided by one of our service partner. For any repair or service need, contact a Molenstraat Service & Repair Partner or send us an email.

What is the right tire pressure for my fatbike ?

For ideal grip, comfort, and battery efficiency on our Fatbikes:

  • General riding: 1.5 – 2.0 bar
  • Snow & loose terrain: ~1.5 bar
  • Road / firm terrain: Up to 2.0 bar

Lower pressure = more traction & comfort
Higher pressure = more efficiency & range

How do I clean my fatbike ?

1. Avoid submerging the fatbike with water and clean with a damp cloth or brush (no pressure washer)

2. Remove dirt and grease from the chain using a grease removed agent such as WD40

3. Apply chain lubricant

4. Avoid using grease on brake discs and brake pads

Moisture and dirt can accelerate wear — cleaning prevents corrosion!

When should I replace my tires?

When tread is worn, punctures increase, or sidewalls show cracks.

Typical lifespan of fatbike tires: 2'000–4'000 km depending on terrain & riding style.

Battery & Electronics

What is the km range of my Fatbike ?

Several factors can affect the typical riding range. Such factors are terrain, temperature, weight, pedal assist level, throttle use vs. pedal use, battery age, among others.

Here is an example of range calculation:

The battery has a capacity of 48 V × 15 Ah, corresponding to approximately 720 Wh of usable energy.

Assuming an average energy consumption of about 10 Wh per kilometer under favorable riding conditions (active pedaling, flat terrain, moderate assistance), the estimated range is:

720Wh÷10Wh/km≈72km

This results in a practical riding range of up to 72 km.

At an average cruising speed of 25 km/h, this corresponds to approximately 2.8 hours of riding time.

A Dapper Pro model with a 30Ah / 1'440 Wh battery capacity will double that range and should cover 145km in the conditions described above.

How to best store my battery ?

If unused over a longer period of time, some precautions are to be taken to ensure long battery life:

  • Keep indoors at room temperature
  • Store between 60–80% charge, ie between 48V-51V for a 48V rated battery (full charge is 54V).
  • Avoid freezing temperatures

How do Fatbikes with dual batteries work ?

Our models that are equipped with double batteries offer an extended riding range. They are equipped with a battery management system (BMS) that will manage and optimize power consumption from both batteries.
Users can decide to switch on either one or the other battery, or both at the same time. The advantage of using one after the other will allow for riders to make sure to always have spare power while riding, switching one battery on after the first one is depleted.
When both batteries are switched on simultaneously, the Fatbikes’s BMS (battery management system) will always draw current from the battery with the highest charge first, therefore protecting one battery to be discharged fully prior to the other second one.
When charging your bike, make sure to charge one battery after the other, as plugging the charger into one battery will not automatically charge the second one. This ensures longer life for both batteries and optimizes charging performance. For users who wish to accelerate the overall charging process, buying an optional additional charger can be a good solution.

Troubleshooting

My bike won't start

1. Make sure battery switches are set to on and batteries are sufficiently charged.
2. Check the proper fit of the batteries on the battery holder.
3. Make sure the Fatbike screen is unlocked (if you have a NFC key make sure it is working properly).
4. Ensure the on/off switch is working properly on the left hand switch command.

Lights not working

If the Fatbike is turned on (screen display is on) but the head and tail lights are not lighting up when the light switch is set to "ON", then switch OFF the Fatbike completely and turn the battery switches to OFF. Wait for 1 minute and turn the Fatbike on again.

Pedal assist mode not working

If you are pedaling and the Fatbike motor doesn't start, the pedal sensor could be damaged or failing. Check the connectors are properly plugged around the pedal sensor. If mud or dirt is obstructing the sensor, try cleaning it with a brush or damp cloth.
